26 Jan Rustic-Elegant Engagement
It’s not every day I get asked to photograph someone who is in the wedding industry. But, when granted the opportunity to provide photographs for a wedding planner and a videographer who just so happen to be engaged to each other I was quite thrilled and nervous, or more like scared. Why? Not only do they both know several talented photographers and could have their pick of the litter but they understand quality photography. The expectation for delivering exceptional results weighed on me a bit. Fortunately, this is when I feel I work my best. My nerves kick in which somehow gets me to process and study the photo shoot in more detail before it even happens.
Nichelle approached me with the idea of mixing a rustic landscape with an elegant wardrobe. It’s a theme I had never really explored and I was quite anxious to see this idea come to life.
While searching for locations in the Ventura and Los Angeles areas I decided on staging the engagement shoot at Paramount Ranch. However, I didn’t choose the location for its western town charm but more for it’s surrounding landscape—tall dried wheat grass, steep mountains and colorful trees. It’s no surprise that Paramount Ranch offers so many photographic opportunities, after all it is the setting of several Hollywood films and commercial photo shoots.
Jason and Nichelle showed up to the ranch all dressed up and ready to go. All that was left to do was crown the bride-to-be with a custom flower crown made by my wife Emily of Emlily Floral Designs.
We spent the majority of the evening exploring the outer areas of the western town making sure to capture the scenic beauty that surrounds the ranch. Not only did I want to capture photographs that represented the couple in their true light and fulfill the rustic-glam theme, I also wanted provide photographs that no other couple had.
Jason and Nichelle were wonderful, they trusted my judgment and vision the entire shoot although I had them hike from end to end and bear the brisk air. I had an extraordinary time chatting, laughing, and photographing the love they share.
